A new, all digital drama studio with fibre channel SAN to go to Berlin

A state-of-the-art Post Pro Studio was tendered to be installed for DLR in the premises of former RIAS in Berlin. Deutschlandradio awarded the T8 cubicle contract to Thum + Mahr in order to improve their facilities for drama and feature production work.

The new studio combines three cubicles which are interconnected via a fibre channel network. This technology warrants the necessary bandwidth for the huge data exchanges. Centered between the cubicles is a Raid Harddisk System for mass storage. Access time is 4,5 ms max.

The HDD Raid System has 285 Gigabyte storage capacity which equals to 400 hours of linear audio. A special hint: a full backup of the complete system over the  fibre channel will only take 10 hours!

The system was handed over in November 2002
