BBC London decides on the new DHD 52 Series
The first broadcasting centre of the BBC’s Regional Networks is due to receive the same broadcast technology as its bigger brother, the BBC National Network Radio.
BBC London guarantees a local presence of the BBC in the multi-million metropolis of the Greater London area. This is where London related radio, local TV, Teletext und Online services for around 20 million capital city residents are produced and broadcast. At the same time, BBC London also acts as the headquarters for the “English Regions.”
The latest technology from DHD received enthusiastic acceptance at the BBC, as the migration path from its extensively installed predecessor, the 4200 Series, was perceived as logical and practical. The general concept is based on the existing studios design for the English Regions: Two identical broadcast cubicles on either side of a guest room, and adjacent to an NPA (News Production Area). The studios will be equipped with the new DHD 52MX Series mixing console systems, configured with ergonomically laid-out control surfaces, each with 18 faders, and a compact workstation in the NPA with 6 faders. All the DSP crates are equipped with redundant PSUs, and all are interconnected with double MADI and Ethernet networks. Studio handover, On-Air switching for the Studios and NPAs, studio Talkback as well as a transparent interface with the BBC’s own Broadcast Network Control System (BNCS) will all be completely managed and controlled by the DHD system.
BBC London’s current accommodation now being refurbished is located in central London’s Marylebone High Street, but will move to the Egton Wing development of the new Broadcasting House in 2009.
